Press release — August 30, 2015

Photographer Jasmine Patterson, a recent graduate of McNeese State University, to show solo exhibition at the Black Heritage Gallery in Downtown Lake Charles

The exhibit opens for display with an opening reception on September 25, 2015, from 5 to 9 pm. Patterson will show her series Expiration, which investigates the portrayal of women in the movie, television, and beauty industries through satirical, staged interpretations of crime scenes.

“I chose a subject of interest that is not at all pleasant because I wanted to express the vulnerability that I, as well as other women, feel when we are exposed to media that represents levels of animosity towards ourselves as well as other women.”

The exhibition runs through November 20, 2015. The Black Heritage Gallery is located at 809 Kirby Street, Suite 207, Lake Charles, Louisiana; regular gallery hours are 9 am to 5 pm, Monday through Friday.
